Substance Abuse
Nuevo Amanecer (“New Dawn”) provides outpatient substance abuse treatment to youth, adults and families who are struggling with alcohol and other drug abuse and dependence. Mattie Rhodes Center provides a continuum of care––including counseling, case management, group counseling, outreach, and gang intervention services––designed to decrease illicit drug use and abuse and to increase the level of overall functioning and well-being of program participants.
Nuevo Amanecer offers three levels of care: Intensive Outpatient Care for targeted, personal outpatient services for individuals impacted by the lack of any Spanish-speaking in-patient facilities; Maintenance Care for regularly scheduled services based on individual need; and After Care focusing on relapse prevention. The evidence-based Living in Balance curriculum provides a clinically evaluated comprehensive guide for conducting individual and group treatment:
Individual Counseling: Adolescents and adults receive one-on-one bilingual counseling with a trained substance abuse counselor during one or two hour sessions. Participants work with the counselor to create a relapse prevention plan and are encouraged to participate in outside Spanish-speaking support groups.
Group Counseling: Adults can choose to receive weekly counseling in a group setting with other persons

struggling with substance abuse challenges.
Family Counseling: The individual in treatment can choose to invite family members to a family counseling session, in which the substance abuse counselor facilitates and oversees interaction.
Case Management: On an as needed basis, participant can receive case management providing linkages to other services in the community relating to their needs.
