MRC Public Safety Initiatives

ParateXPaz

PárateXPaz is dedicated to preventing violence and breaking the cycle of harm in the Historic Northeast. We empower individuals and families with the support and resources they need to live free from violence and build safer communities.

Support includes: support at funerals to ensure families feel safe, risk for retaliation assessments, mediations between families and community members, food
assistance, victims’ compensation and connection to MRC social service teams, connection to grief groups/support, etc.

COMBAT NE HUB

MRC ‘s Community Resource Team serves as an integral agency resource and community liaison in the areas of violence prevention and public safety.  The Community Resource Team serves all Northeast non-fatal shooting victims and/or Spanish-speaking victims in Jackson County with services such as relocation, rent/utility, food assistance, mental health support, case management, etc.

Department of Justice STOP Violence Project

This project aims to reduce school violence in Kansas City Public Schools (KCPS) using a multi-tiered system of supports (MTSS). It includes hiring two full-time staff for violence prevention, forming multi-disciplinary teams to support high-risk youth, and providing training for staff and students on violence prevention. The project
also promotes the KC Crime Stoppers app for anonymous reporting and builds community partnerships for ongoing collaboration and transparency. The goal is to improve safety and communication among stakeholders in KCPS.
